I recently stumled upon the thrum crochet technique, and I must say, I’m completely in love with it. While exploring ways to create a fleece for my latest amigurumi lamb pattern, nothing seemed more fitting than authentic wool. Crocheting with thrums is a bit more complicated than traditional crocheting but it’s still easier to work with thrums than with many fuzzy yarns available, as, at least, you can see the stitches and you know where to insert the hook.
Yarn selection has always been a bit of a challenge for me when creating patterns. With customers scattered across the globe, I rely on standard cotton yarn in a sport-weight which is available everywhere. But, I often want to make furry little animals with some cuddly, fuzzy novelty yarn and then I have a problem as my customers can’t get the same yarn and it’s hard to explain which yarn to use. Even a small difference in the yarn makes a huge impact on the finished toy. Using wool roving and thrum crochet has helped solve this issue to some extent.
The crochet lamb pattern offers instructions for creating the lamb using two techniques: thrum crochet and loop stitch crochet. You can find the pattern in my shop at https://pepika.com/shop.
